Hollywood is one of many places where diversity is becoming more celebrated. The world of beauty is more expansive than you think. What may be considered beautiful in the Western world may not be beautiful in Asian countries. For example, tanned skin is considered attractive in the United States, but Asian countries favor paler skin as it is a status symbol.

South Korea is usually seen as a beauty mecca, but Japan also holds many charms in the beauty industry. South Korea has plenty of color analysis specialists. Although Japan is known for producing many products, it follows a kaotype—a system that best flatters people’s facial structures, usually individuals of Japanese descent. Other people are slowly taking an interest in it, too!

Let’s delve into the karyotypes!

  • Understanding Kaotypes

Karyotypes are traits associated with ethnic or regional groups, including eye shape, nose structure, facial symmetry, and skin tone variations. Japan has them as part of its beauty systems, pride of its own, while French Beauty has Bachca Australia and French pharmacy in its wares.

The Kaotypes

  • The Cute Type

The cute type has childish features; the kaotype seems younger than the person’s age—the parts and contours of a cute type kaotype. Even if the person with this kaotype gets older, their facial features may not change, and their childlike quality may be lost. The childlike features of this person may even “protect” the people around them.  Sadly, this kaotype is often perceived to be young and unreliable.

The cute type kaotype includes Yuko Ogura, Nicole Fujita, and Mone Kamishiraishi. The buzzwords for cute types include cute, girly, casual, and romantic. The needed patterns for this kaotype include curved polka dots, hand-painted pedicels, and gingham checks.

  • Active Cute Type

The active cute type possesses a rounded contour. However, their features have a mature, lively, curious, and powerful look that is eye-catching. Those with active-cute faces may give others a flashy impression—warmer-leaning colors like red, pink, and orange suit active cute types. Straight patterns do not suit them, either.  Flared skirts, A-line skirts, and trapezoidal skirts look great on them.

  • Fresh Type

The fresh type may also look younger than the person’s actual age. They look clean and friendly, and fresh types are seen as easy to talk to. Ryoko Hirosue, Nana Eikura, Hiromi Nagasaku, and Tsubasa Honda are fresh types of entertainers. Solid colors suit them.

  • Cool Casual Type

Bony facial structures and boyish atmospheres define the excellent casual type. They also look pretty young, and people misperceive them as uptight. Sporty chic style suits their silhouettes. Loose-size clothing also flatters their bodies.

  • Feminine Type

A round and sweet face characterizes the feminine type. It is also a feminine and mature beauty—often found among actresses. Those with these faces worry that they are seen as too feminine. Gorgeous designs, such as plenty of frills and ribbon bowtie blouses, flatter them.

  • Soft Elegant Type

They have soft faces, elegant features, and a sweet and calm disposition. Soft neutral colors, such as lavender and mint green, are often recommended for them.

  • Elegant Type

The face type has more mature features with curved and straight lines, thus giving an elegant and gorgeous effect. Anne Nakamura, Izumi Mori, Ryoko Shinohara, Keiko Kitagawa, etc. are elegant. Elegant, conservative, and beautiful are traits used to describe them. Purple and dark green give an elegant impression, and black gives a strong impression.

  • Wrapping Up

Kaotypes have affected global practices and perceptions. Makeup techniques are often created to accommodate different facial features while drawing inspiration from Japanese traditions. Ultimately, it celebrates the uniqueness of features. This empowers people to appreciate and enhance their natural beauty.
