Balding is a serious issue that is becoming more and more prevalent nowadays. Male pattern baldness is one such type of balding which is affecting a sizable portion of males. But when it comes to treating male pattern baldness, or androgenetic alopecia, it is imperative to know the various male baldness pattern stages so as to get the right type of treatment.  While many turn to medical treatments for hair loss, there are also numerous natural remedies and home treatments that can be effective, particularly in the early and moderate stages. Let’s take a look at these remedies, providing options for men to manage hair loss naturally at different stages.

Understanding Male Balding Stages

Male pattern baldness typically progresses through several stages, starting with mild hair thinning and potentially advancing to complete baldness. Recognizing these stages early can help implement effective management strategies:

  1. Early Stage of Male Pattern Baldness: Characterized by minimal hair thinning, often around the temples or crown.
  2. Moderate Stage: Noticeable hairline recession and thinning on the crown.
  3. Advanced Stage: Significant hair loss with visible bald spots and potential merging of balding areas.
  4. Severe Stage: Extensive baldness with only a thin ring of hair around the sides and back of the scalp.

Natural Remedies and Home Treatments

Minimal Hair Thinning: The best thing to do here is to focus on a healthy scalp. Applying fresh aloe vera to the scalp is very fruitful. Warm coconut oil also has a very hydrating and strengthening effect on the scalp and hair. THe high sulfur content in onion juice is also extremely beneficial to the scalp. Leave it on for 15 minutes and wash it off with mild shampoo.

Noticeable Hairline Recession: When hairline recession becomes apparent, it’s essential to strengthen the remaining hair and stimulate new growth. Rosemary oil improves circulation and promotes hair growth; mix a few drops with a carrier oil like coconut or olive oil, massage into the scalp, and leave for at least 30 minutes before washing off. Green tea, rich in antioxidants, boosts hair growth and prevents hair loss; brew it, let it cool, apply to the scalp, leave for an hour, then rinse with water. Apple cider vinegar balances scalp pH and removes dead cells to promote hair growth; dilute it with water (1:2 ratio) and use it as a rinse after shampooing.

Further Hairline Recession and Thinning at the Crown: At this stage, combining various treatments can help manage more pronounced thinning. Using castor oil, which is rich in ricinoleic acid, can increase scalp circulation and promote hair growth; simply mix it with a lighter oil like argan or jojoba, massage into the scalp, leave overnight, and wash off in the morning. An egg mask, rich in protein, also strengthens hair; mix one egg with a tablespoon of olive oil, apply to the scalp and hair, leave for 20 minutes, then rinse with cool water and mild shampoo. Additionally, fenugreek seeds, containing proteins and nicotinic acid, strengthen hair shafts and promote growth; soak the seeds overnight, grind into a paste, apply to the scalp, leave for 30 minutes, and rinse with a mild shampoo.

Extensive Hair Loss: With significant hair loss, maintaining scalp health and boosting the condition of existing hair is crucial. Ginseng stimulates hair follicles and promotes growth; take ginseng supplements as directed or apply ginseng oil to the scalp. Hibiscus promotes hair growth and prevents premature graying; make a paste from hibiscus flowers and coconut oil, apply to the scalp, leave for 30 minutes, and rinse with a mild shampoo. Additionally, a sage tea rinse strengthens hair and stimulates growth; brew strong sage tea, let it cool, and use it as a final rinse after shampooing.

Severe Hair Loss: For those in the advanced stages, maintaining scalp health and boosting remaining hair vitality is essential. Neem oil, with its antibacterial properties, keeps the scalp healthy; massage it into the scalp, leave overnight, and wash off in the morning. Jojoba oil moisturizes the scalp and promotes hair growth; massage it into the scalp and leave for at least 30 minutes before washing. Licorice root soothes the scalp and opens pores to strengthen hair; make a paste from licorice root, saffron, and milk, apply to the scalp, leave overnight, and wash off in the morning.
